Turning Shadow juxtaposes a stark denuded landscape with the inevitability of new growth. This dance film is set in a fire scar in the Santa Barbara hills dominated by burned trees and ash. In the first spring after the fire, birds have returned with a crop of wildflowers. The sorrowful but poetic earth speaks to the issues of global warming and the film speaks to a human response to place. We hope the film offers hope through that most elegiac of art forms— dance.
